At its location in Lohr am Main, Bosch Rexroth employs a new water-miscible high-performance cooling lubricant. Lubricant Zuhora 65 H Ultra by Zeller + Gmelin increases the lifetime of the emulsion. Its bio-stability is excellent, resulting in considerable cost savings in favour of Bosch Rexroth.
As one of the leading manufacturers for drive and control technology, Bosch Rexroth offers precise and energy-efficient solutions for plants and machines of all sizes. The company is able to, at user level, combine worldwide experience of plant construction and engineering, mobile applications as well as factory automation for the development of innovative components. In addition, Bosch Rexroth enables appropriate services and bespoke system solutions from a single source. Its portfolio ranges from linear and assembly technology, electrical drives and controls to hydraulics and transmission technology.
Residue behaviour and machine cleanliness Bosch Rexroth manufactures, among other things, control valves, pistons and cylinders at its location in Lohr am Main. When processing components, the production and maintenance department focuses great importance to machine cleanliness and bio-stability. The choice of cooling lubricant has great significance: The cooling lubricant originally employed showed impurities, deposited on the locking mechanism of the tool magazine, resulting in increased setup times. Those impurities were formed by the hardness component agents present in the batching and after-treatment water in combination with KSS components and fine grinding.
New Solution approach sought A cooling lubricant, with comparable high lubricity properties which was sought for, in its entirety, in combination with starting and after-treatment water, reduces or even eliminates those residues. Finally, the high-performance cooling lubricant Zubora 65 H Ultra was found, that fully fulfils the conditions set and required by Bosch Rexroth. “With our products, we want to ensure a sustainable value chain by positioning ourselves as the reliable supplier, innovator and solution provider”, explains Siegfried Müller, managing director Marketing and Sales, Zeller + Gmelin, the success strategy of the 150-year-old company.
Powerful water-miscible cooling lubricant for demanding application processes Zubora 65 H Ultra, developed for Bosch Rexroth, is a partially synthetic, water-miscible high-performance cooling lubricant employed at its central plants as well as processing centers. Specialists from Zeller + Gmelin have developed a highly effective combination of EP additives allowing for a longer tool life and at the same time enabling high cutting speeds thus making the product suitable for the most difficult machining processes. Zubora 65 H Ultra is completely boron-free and formaldehyde-free and display high process reliability, especially when steel, stainless steel, cast iron and a multitude of sensitive aluminium alloys need to be machined.
In all aspects, the new type of cooling lubricant exceeded the expectations of the experts at Bosch Rexroth, thus asserting itself against two competitors. “We chose Zubora 65 H Ultra because it displays a high long term stability resulting in sustainable increased emulsion lifetime”, praises Günter Schuhmann, Head of Fluid service at Factory 1 in Lohr from Bosch Rexroth, the benefits of the new product. Sustainable optimisation of production processes Significant improvement of the production process was achieved by reducing bonding on the locking mechanism. Cleanliness of the machines increased considerably due to improved dirt removal and drainage properties. This is also visible in direct product comparison. Meanwhile, the entire location in Lohr has been converted and is using the new cooling lubricant.
Savings are enormous and service life has been significantly extended, from 3 months to 6 months to 12-18 months. Bosch Rexroth plans to employ the new cooling lubricant at further locations.
