DENSO Robotics Europe highlighted this year with the European premiere of new products: the new SCARA robot, the notably collaborative robot, and the Industry 4.0/IoT applications. DENSO additionally showed innovative solutions such as a new function called “safety motion” to make the work near robots safer as well as two ultra-fast 3D bin picking systems that enable the handling of unsorted bulk small parts.
The new HSR series
Redefine performance with the brand new SCARA series which comes with the impressively futuristic design making it lighter, stronger, and more precise even during continuous operation over long periods. The biggest interest of the exhibition is highlighted on the New HSR series which offers three models with different arm lengths and a maximum working load for its type. The automated application pick-and-place of objects performs a high number of cycles per minute continuously and reliably – proven with the real high speed shown on the monitor at the fair.
Based on further developments of the decades of experience in small robotics – the new robot series come with the new, beyond-basic features such as strengthened rigidity and lightweight arm motion. In addition, the advanced interlocking design assures highly effective vibration dampening. The improved heat dissipation, together with other features, enables the robots to perform efficiently even during continuous operation over long periods and to implement a high number of cycles per minute. Wires can be optionally installed in the auxiliary arm in order to avoid and reduce the risk of unruly cables and wire breakage, especially during operations.
Upgraded from the previous HS Series, the new HSR robots are able to serve longer arm reach (480, 550 and 650 mm) and higher payload of up to 8 kg, but yet remaining its high advantage against size constrains. Both floor and ceiling mounting configuration are available for selection to best suit the application layout.

Demolish any frontier between human and robots with the new collaborative robot from DENSO and experience its compatibility with a broad scope of applications, whether it be for educational or research purposes.
First time in Europe the new lightweight, jointed-arm robot for the increasingly important human-robot-collaboration is introduced. Though the Cobotta is just a prototype, it created a lot of interest from visitors with a combined recognition-drawing application.
Its technical data is very impressive: With a weight of just 3.8 kg, the robot is extremely light and offers a maximum working load of 500 gr. The controls are integrated into the robot arm; it is designed as an open platform, and thus can be easily integrated into existing systems. In addition, the robot can be programmed in various languages such as C#, C++, VB, among others. The new model is highly suited for applications in limited spaces as well as handling small parts, perfectly deployable in desktop applications typically found in laboratories as an example. The prototype robot has been conceived to work hand in hand with humans thanks to features like predefined safe speed and a soft and round-edges design. The market-ready robot is expected to be available in the first quarter of 2017.
Industry 4.0/ IoT Readiness
Anyone can go digital with DENSO Robotics. DENSO’s prompt Industry 4.0/IoT solutions through ORiN and their own RC8 controller surely offer the right, direct path in connecting to softwares, hardwares industrial interfaces and much more.
At AUTOMATICA, DENSO Robotics presented the various possibilities of 4.0/IoT applications by using ORiN and DENSO’s own RC8 Controller (with a pre-installed ORiN) as a solution. Originally, ORiN had been developed as a standard platform for robot-assisted applications. Today, ORiN serves as development software for a number of industrial production applications, i.e. for links to any DENSO software, hardware, industrial interfaces (i.e. ProfiNET, ProfiBUS, etc.), PLC, and also to planning and monitoring software (Oracle, SAP, SIEMENS, etc.), as well as to other development software and cloud platform services. Together with DENSO RC8 controller,the platform can be easily integrated even into older technologies – and thus supports the integration of devices in „smart factories“.
No more concern would ever arise when working near or working with robots. With help of optical sensors, virtual fences are defined, securing safety in working environment in industrial factories.
This new “Safety Motion” function is a cutting-edge tool for maximizing industrial robot safety which is included in DENSO robot controller version RC8A. DENSO Robotics implements optical sensors with collaboration with our robots to dynamically control robot speed in relation to the distance of approaching individuals, making working environments with robots safer for human. The two sensors, one placed at the bottom and one at the top, generate virtual safe zones which were identified through different colors; green, yellow and red. Each zone represented the distance of an approaching individual. Green and yellow triggered speed reduction while red stopped of the robot.
3D Bin Picking
Unsorted becomes very fast and efficiently sorted with DENSO robot arm. With high performance machine vision systems in combination with DENSO robots, small parts or objects are surely ready for further processes.
DENSO Robotics together with partner companies presented two ultra-fast 3D bin picking solutions for handling unsorted small components. For safe and robust automation, we often need precise 3D sensors and 3D data in high resolution to safely detect and handle small components, and a reliable pick and place solution. The high performance machine vision systems and DENSO robots are able to detect a small in approximately 2 seconds. The 3D bin-picking solution ensures that even large quantities of randomly positioned small components are efficiently and reliably handled.
The New VS H2O2/UV Series
The DENSO VS-050-S2 or The New VS H2O2/UV Series is an especially designed robot type for pharmaceutical and medical industries certified by Fraunhofer IPA. Its unique of gentle curves prevents accumulation of bacteria as well as minimalist designs that offer the internal wiring. These optimal advantages of being easy to clean and remaining hygienic for longer periods make it notably ideal for sterile work environments. Additionally, this robot type is highly resistant against strong sterilization agents such as H2O2 spray and ultra violet light.
The system consists of a vision camera, a part feeder system called EYEFEEDER® and a DENSO robot.
It is a system that is developed for fast, reliable and precise sorting of small items or parts which uses a vibrating conveyor belt. The belt helps enhance the scanning of scattered items for continuous detection. After the well positioned items are detected, the robot then picks up those items for further processes. And if there are no or not enough items on the belt, the system can trigger the robot to move new items to detection area. This is particularly ideal for small parts being fed with a random orientation and in large quantities.
