The CNC production turning machine which is equipped with three tool carriers is available with 65 mm or 90 mm bar capacity. It has the INDEX SingleSlide plate-type guide system typical for the C200, which has already set standards in terms of damping, rigidity and tool lives. The innovative kinematics with three independent tool carriers and two Y-axes and the vertical machine structure are design highlights of the machine. This means that the user can achieve an enormous increase in productivity through an ideal division of machining tasks.
The tool slide with the INDEX SingleSlide plate-type guide system for the X and Z motions only consists of a single piece and moves the turrets on surface sliding guides instead of roller guides. This means the tool carriers 1 and 2 slide on guides that are securely bolted to the machine bed. The virtually wear-free sliding pair consists of full-hardened mild steel plates (guides) and coated sliding elements (tool carriers). Precise adjustment ensures absence of backlash between the gliding elements. This design combines the familiar benefits of sliding guides, such as good damping properties and high rigidity, with acceleration and rapid traverse performances that so far had been implemented in machine tools only on the basis of linear roller guides. We were able to significantly enhance the drive kinematics of this innovative guiding principle by using scissor kinematics. Last but not least, this is also reflected in the low heat transfer and the high accuracy of the machine. The small masses to be moved allow accelerations up to 1 g.
The production turning machine INDEX C200 meets the market’s requirements of producing smaller workpieces with high efficiency under continuously increasing precision requirements, even in larger diameter ranges. Also, the increasing complexity of the workpieces requires a growing number of tools to be used. As a solution, all three turret heads are equipped with 14 tool mountings according to DIN VDI 69880-25. For users who prefer to use existing tool holders according to DIN VDI 69880-30, the turrets are optionally available with 10 tool stations. Both versions feature INDEX’s W-serration, an INDEX-specific, enhanced VDI interface. W-slots in the turret head ensure setup repeatabilities of +/- 8 µm even for angled tools – and that at a distance of up to 100 mm from the tool mounting device.
Low secondary times and thus further cycle time reductions are the result of fast rapid traverse rates of up to 50 m/min in the counter spindle’s Z-axis. The vertical machine bed provides for unhindered chip flow. The offset control cabinet allows quick and easy access from the rear of the machine for servicing. Removing the sheet panels opens up free access to the drive kinematics and to the entire electrical and hydraulic installation. Another important aspect for operator and setup engineer is the easy setup of the INDEX C200 due to the excellent access to the working area. The fact that this compact automatic lathe has a high performance density as usual and therefore only a minimal footprint is something that can be expected from an INDEX machine.
